Pantone’s 2019 Colour of the Year: Living Coral

Pantone’s team has selected Living Coral as their 2019 of the year! Whoopee!

Pantone is a business unit that has spent the last several decades selecting a Colour of the Year that best represents a cultural need. Quoting Leature Eiseman from Pantone’s release on their Colour of the Year selection, “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral.”

This colour was used by artists such as Monet, as the yellow crystals of the mineral cadmium in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, a full array of orange tones became available when red cadmium was introduced.

This is loosely a shade of orange, which is the sum of its parts; the energy of red and the happiness of yellow, merged into one. It represents enthusiasm and determination, creativity and encouragement.

This is a bold, warm colour that can really amplify the sun in south and west-facing rooms, and, with some creativity, could also serve as a brave and potent feature wall tone. We’ve used it in a few of our decorating items at Fresh Living, too! Living coral makes an excellent accent piece for rooms that seek a little more warmth.
